Fashion Trends: Winter 2019-2020

Feathers

Feathers are currently taking over the fashion industry, whether it’s Kylie & Kendall’s Met Gala looks shown above, or even just a feather accent on a sweater. This feather trend really started when Marc Jacobs revealed his runway show for Spring 2019. Buying a sweater with a cute feather trim or even a pair of slides with feather accents is an easy way to incorporate feathers into your everyday wardrobe without looking over the top.

Tiny Bags

By now, you have surely seen the tiny bag trend that is sweeping the retail industry. Even though it seems a tad bit impractical, a tiny bag makes a chic statement! Designer Jacquemus was the first designer to really put tiny bags on the map with his 2019 collection. Lizzo famously brought her tiny Valentino bag to the most recent American Music Awards. You can find affordable tiny bags on websites like Pretty Little Thing and Topshop!

All Leather Everything

This winter season, we have seen a lot of 80’s fashion trends making a comeback, and one of them is leather. Leather right now is huge and very “matrix inspired”. This time around, leather isn’t only being worn in black; leather looks are being seen on the runway with various colors, making the material really pop. Fashion icons Rihanna and Bella Hadid are wearing head to toe leather looks in the photos above. A simple way to add leather to your wardrobe is by finding a nice patent leather leggings to throw on with some of your favorite tops or sweaters! If you’re feeling extra bold, you can also wear a leather jacket.

Millennial Purple

This shade of purple (now being called “Millennial Purple”) is being named the new black. Millennial purple has been sweeping the runways and streetwear as a trend that’s hard to escape. This color is a cross between a lavender and periwinkle shade, and looks great on all skin tones. The shade "Ultraviolet" was named the Pantone Color of the Year in 2018, and since then has really been making significant appearances on runway shows, which helped introduce this Millennial Purple shade. Any clothing item in this shade is a super cute way to add some color and be trendy at the same time.

Super Long Coats

If you want to make an entrance and captivate someone’s attention, do it by wearing a long coat. Designers like Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, and Altuzarra have incorporated this bold silhouetted coat style into their collections. You want this coat to be grazing your ankle with length! You can accessorize it with minimal jewelry, like a slim gold chain and small gold hoops, and you have an amazing look. Some brands to use for finding this type of long coat while still being affordable is Primark and Shein!
